Giving for Growth
26 June 2011 was Giving for Growth Sunday
As part of the Diocese of Norwich's Committed to Growth initiative Bishop Graham requested that all parishes set aside one Sunday a year as Giving for Growth Sunday. He writes:
Everyone leading worship and preaching that day should focus on our responsibility as Christian disciples to give of our money as part of our growth in discipleship. The day is to be set in the context of our Committed to Growth plans, and includes the opportunity to thank those who give regularly and generously; to encourage a regular annual review of our giving; and to encourage us all to see our giving in terms of our response to God's great generosity towards us.
In 2010 St Mary's South Creake embraced this idea with enthusiasm and, in consequence and through the generosity of our regular worshippers and committed friends, our income from planned giving and Gift Aid giving has increased substantially.
The increase in giving took us out of the ‘anxiety zone’ enabling us both to plan some expenditure on housekeeping items and to make gifts ourselves: to the DEC Disaster Appeal following last year’s floods in Pakistan, to the Diocesan Lent Appeal for Nurses in Nepal, and to the needs of the developing world through Christian Aid.
We have responded again to the Bishop's call this year. All regualr givers and regualar members of the congregation have received a letter from the Churchwarden and the Treasurer thanking them for their existing giving and asking them, if they feel able, to review the amount they give.
