Sundays after Trinity

Sometimes called ‘Ordinary Time’ the period after Pentecost has as its first Sunday Trinity Sunday.  The Trinity celebrates not an event but a doctrine, the Christian belief that God is known as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Thereafter we follow one of the first three gospels, thus reflecting on different elements of Our Lord’s teaching. This year we are following St Matthew. The various saints days, which are tied to dates rather than seasons or days of the week, sometimes interrupt this pattern as will be the case in 2011 with St. Thomas (3 July).
